Harry's Awakening
This contemporary political thriller set in the south west of England tells the story of Harry McNamara, a newly elected and populist MP, currently suspended by the House for his alleged expenses irregularities. Whilst investigations continue, he returns to his Plymouth constituency. On November 5th he attends the barrel rolling and bonfire at Ottery St Mary only to discover a body in the fire. Subsequent events catapult him back into a subterfuge political campaign in association with extreme right wing figures. The murdered man in the bonfire and those responsible lead Harry into a murky and dangerous world. Meantime, Harry uses his Plymouth based family scrap metal business as a cover for his aspirations. Quickly he builds his campaign team. He has friends, he has enemies, but what will ultimately happen to Harry?
Readers familiar with the author's work will know of Harry from the earlier novel 'Harry's England' which tells the background story. The central character of Harry is compellingly drawn. Not a nice man, Harry strikes a powerful figure, a man definitely of our time.
